Hazen High School

Hazen High School is a public secondary school located in Renton, WA. This high school was established in 1968 and is a part of the Renton School District. During the school year 2017 to 2018, Hazen had an enrollment of over 1,600 students. The staff consists of 70 full-time employees. The student-to-teacher ratio is about 23. The mascot of this public high school is Gordy the Highlander. The current principal is Principal Kate O’Brien.

Academics

There are many different academic subjects offered at Hazen High School. Students also have the option of enrolling in a variety of advanced courses. There are many Advanced Placement courses in subjects like Humanities, Mathematics, and Science. The three languages taught at Hazen High School are Spanish, French, and German.

Athletics

Some of the sports programs at Hazen High School include basketball, football, golf, tennis, cross country, soccer, swim and dive, volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, baseball, track, and softball. With such a wide variety of sports offered, students should have no problems finding something that they enjoy. Hazen has won 10 state championships in sports like soccer, swimming, and cheerleading. Hazen is a part of the North Puget Sound League. However, it used to be a part of the Seamount League.

Activities and Extracurriculars

Hazen High School also has an extensive list of different activities and extracurriculars. For example, Hazen has a Future Business Leaders of America chapter for students who are interested in business. There is also a very active music department that consists of two orchestras, three bands, and four choirs. There are over 300 students who participate in the music department every year.

There is also a career center at Hazen that students can take advantage of to start planning their careers and preparing for college. There are college planning resources as well as opportunities for apprenticeships and internships. The career center also provides guidance for students who are planning on taking the SAT or ACT and for students who are applying for scholarships. There is also counseling for students who need help choosing their classes from Renton’s extensive course catalog.
